I discovered the Spun chair back in 2012, when I went to visit the Heatherwick exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, with my sister. On that day, I fell in love with the incredible work of that talented studio! If for a "larger public" Heatherwick is mainly synonym of the Olympic Cauldron, for me he is one of the greatest inventors ever, with the Spun Chair! That seat was launched at prestigious Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan and is made from rotational moulded polyethylene. Using a single profile and rotating it through 360 degrees, Spun is a functional spinning top. It measures 65cm high by 91cm in diameter and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. The Spun is manufactured by Magis in Italy.
And guess who found a Spun chair "under" the Christmas tree this Christmas as part of her presents? Yes, me! :-D Spinning on the Spun daily for a few seconds is very relaxing and calming. It also helps concentration. Studies show that rocking, spinning and other physical movement through space helps children’s brain development and their ability to pay attention, by stimulating the vestibular (inner ear) system. And here’s the thing, this works with both infants and older kids (I am in the "older kids category" right? ;-)
So if for your upcoming projects or just to treat yourself, you are after something comfortable, relaxing and fun, think about that seat!
Happy Spinning Year 2017, U x
